How can my child receive service at The Therapy Place?
Speak with your pediatrician. Your pediatrician can answer questions about typical development or delays in areas of gross motor skills, speech and language, feeding, fine motor skills and sensory needs. If you feel that your child could benefit from our services, simply ask your pediatrician to fax an order to us at 803-787-0300. We will do the rest!
Does The Therapy Place accept Medicaid insurance?
We currently accept the following forms of Medicaid: Fee-For-Service/TEFRA and BlueChoice Medicaid. Please contact us directly if you would like to discuss your specific insurance questions or concerns.
Does The Therapy Place accept any commercial insurance plans?
We currently do not participate with any commercial carriers (such as BCBS, Cigna, Aetna etc.). However, if you have a commercial insurance as a primary and Medicaid as a secondary insurance, we will file with your child’s primary insurance first and then file Medicaid second. Please contact us directly if you would like to discuss your specific insurance questions or concerns. If the child does not have Medicaid, we will accept payment at time of service. A 25% discount will applied when paid at time of service.
What will happen once my child has been referred? THE EVALUATION
Once the order and pertinent information has been received from your pediatrician’s office, we will make contact with you to schedule an evaluation for your child. Evaluations typically last between 45 minutes to 1 hour. We request that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled appointment time to complete necessary paperwork. We also ask that the parent or legal guardian remain present during the evaluation to provide relevant history and information to the therapist as requested. Please bring any previous therapy or discharge paperwork that may be helpful in documenting your child’s medical history.
What to Expect at Your Child’s Evaluation
During the evaluation, our therapist will talk with you about your child’s medical history, developmental history, previous evaluations, and the specific areas of concern that prompted you to seek assistance from TTP. To evaluate your child’s development, our therapist uses both standardized assessments and non-standardized assessments, such as play, conversation, and observation. You may need to complete additional paperwork during the evaluation. Plan to spend one to one-and-a-half hours at TTP to complete the process.
What to Bring to Your Child’s Evaluation
Shortly after you schedule your evaluation appointment, you’ll receive a registration packet in the mail, or you may download the packet here. You need to complete all the paperwork included in the packet. You can either mail your completed packet to us before your appointment or bring everything with you to the appointment.
In addition, when you come for your appointment, be sure to bring the following:
- Insurance cards
- List of your child’s current medications and allergies
- Copies of your child’s recent medical reports, such as previous evaluations, diagnostic reports, IEP reports, and any other relevant materials
What will happen after the evaluation is completed?
After the evaluation has been completed, the therapist will inform you of recommendations for any future treatments. Immediately following your child’s evaluation, as recommended, we will schedule your child’s therapy appointments. Typically, the evaluation day/time is the same weekly slot that your child will be scheduled in to receive therapy, assuming it is recommended.
What if I cannot make the evaluation or therapy appointment?
We respectfully ask that you contact The Therapy Place at 803-787-3033 at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule your therapy evaluation or treatment appointment.
